Which free crypto project actually pays? A side-by-side comparison
Written by the Crypto Gratis editorial team · Last reviewed
Five projects, compared on the four things that decide whether any of this is worth your time: what it pays you in, whether that value survives the week, what it demands from you, and whether you can even join.
| Project | Pays in | Does the value hold? | Identity check | Can you join? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| impactMarket | cUSD — a dollar stablecoin | Holds its value | Community verification, no biometrics | Approved communities only |
| GoodDollar | G$ — its own token | Moves; historically very low | Face scan (liveness check) | Open to almost anyone |
| Circles | Your own personal currency | Only what your trust network accepts | Vouching by existing members | Open, but you need contacts |
| Pi Network | Pi | Traded, volatile, heavily disputed | Full KYC with documents | Open |
| World (Worldcoin) | WLD | Traded, volatile | Iris scan | Restricted in many countries |
The verdicts in one line each
- impactMarket
- The one that pays real money, if you can join Available: DR Congo, Togo, Mali, Venezuela, Malawi, Uganda, Sierra Leone and others.
- GoodDollar
- The realistic default if you are outside an impactMarket community Available: 181 countries; about two-thirds of users in emerging economies.
- Circles
- Best privacy; needs a community to be worth anything Available: Strongest where a local group already uses it.
- Pi Network
- Finish KYC if you have an old balance; starting now pays little Available: Very large user base across Asia and Africa.
- World (Worldcoin)
- Probably unavailable to you, and the reason matters Available: Banned or restricted in Kenya, Indonesia, India, Brazil and others.
How to choose, in order
- Check whether impactMarket operates where you are. If it does and you are eligible, nothing else on this list competes: it pays a dollar stablecoin rather than a token whose price might halve.
- Otherwise start with GoodDollar, provided you accept the face scan. It is open almost everywhere, it has run continuously since 2020, and it is the realistic default.
- Add Circles if you already have a community that would use it. It asks nothing of your privacy, which is rare and worth something.
- Only bother with Pi if you already have an old balance to migrate. Starting from zero today is a poor use of attention.
- Do not plan around World. It is restricted in most of the countries where people read this page.
What none of them do
None of these replace an income. None are investments — we publish no price predictions and treat those we see as fiction. And none of them are free in the sense of costing you nothing: four of the five want either your face or your documents, permanently.
Before you start, read how to convert tokens into local money. A balance you cannot spend is a number on a screen, and the exit route is the part that decides whether any of this counted.
